Each year, in the Roman Catholic ‘calendar’, on the 8th December, ‘The Feast of the Immaculate Conception’ is observed. Helpful information on what this feast relates to can be found on this Roman Catholic web site link
Just a few lines from the item on that link will give understanding as to who and what the term ‘Immaculate Conception’ refers to – there we read –
‘the Blessed Virgin Mary “in the first instance of her conception, by a singular privilege and grace granted by God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the human race, was preserved exempt from all stain of original sin.”’
From time to time over many years now I have had occasion to issue warnings about the gospel-compromising actions and words of J I Packer who is regarded by many as a ‘stalwart’ proponent of Evangelicalism and the Reformed Faith position.
These links will take you to items I have written about him

Perhaps the greatest ‘shock waves were felt when he endorsed the 1994 “Evangelicals and Catholics Together: The Christian Mission for the Third Millennium” document. Not only did he endorse it but when challenged as to how he could have come to endorse it he wrote a defence of what he had done. My own assessment was that Mr Packer had totally betrayed what he claimed to believe about core matters such as ‘justification’. There is a good assessment of this matter and Mr Packer’s role in it by Iain Murray and you can view it on
No one needs to be told that the demographic makeup of the continent of Europe has been changing dramatically and rapidly over the past year or so with the influx (in reality in many cases – the invasion) of huge numbers of ‘migrants’.
Many countries have been severely, and again in many cases, adversely affected by the arrival of these people within their borders and across Europe many countries have already erected or are considering erecting fences on their borders to stop this movement of people.
Pope Francis has often spoken on these matters and has on occasions visited key locations where these ‘migrants’ have been arriving. Many people have been left scratching their heads when they have listened to his comments on this ‘migration’ question so just what exactly is going on?
My good friend Shaun Willcock of Bible Based Ministries closely monitors the activities and strategies of The Vatican and he has just published a very enlightening article that addresses this very question of why Pope Francis is doing and saying what he does on this whole question.
I commend this article to you and it can be accessed on
I recall in the immediate years following my conversion in August 1984 being given by another Christian two booklets titled as follows –
ALBERTO – Part One DOUBLE-CROSS – Alberto Part Two
They were published by CHICK PUBLICATIONS and followed very much a comicstyle format. As a young believer they were riveting but in the years that followed I began to hear doubts being expressed by other professing Christians, not only about the content but also about the character of the central person in these booklets, Alberto Rivera.
Having viewed some articles on the Internet it is clear that there are many people claiming either to debunk the ‘content’ claims made by Alberto Rivera for his ‘priestly past’ or others staunchly defending those claims.
This short article seeks to highlight both the writings and a taped message by someone who had personal contact for a period of time with Alberto Rivera and that is Shaun Willcock of Bible Based Ministries, based in South Africa. What is interesting is that in his writings and in his taped message Shaun Willcock remains basically ‘neutral’ on the ‘content’ question of Alberto Rivera’s ‘priestly past’ and focuses rather on other vitally important ‘character’ matters that others perhaps have not highlighted or drawn attention to.
The taped message by Shaun Willcock can be heard on
In the early years after my conversion and, with a growing interest in ‘apologetics’, I soon became aware of the work of the Christian Research Institute and its ‘leading light’, its founder and director, the late Dr. Walter Martin. Over a number of years I regularly subscribed to and received their ministry magazine that contained many helpful articles on various cults and non-Christian religions.
However, I was saddened, disappointed and dare I say it, even shocked, by a series of articles they published in 1993 (some 4 years after the death of Dr Martin) on the subject of Roman Catholicism. Whilst their analysis of that religion was at times helpful, the eventual conclusions that they reached seemed to me to be dangerously misleading and evidenced a ‘soft’ approach to the subject under consideration.
Earlier this year my good brother in Christ, Shaun Willcock, of ‘Bible Based Ministries’ in South Africa wrote a detailed and comprehensive article assessing the Papal visit to America that had just taken place. It was titled –
“The Pope of Rome in America 2015: Why now?” and it could be accessed on –
On a recent short visit to the Cork area in the south of Ireland, Margaret and I spent an afternoon having a look at the shops in the centre of Cork City itself. As is our custom on such occasions we split up having agreed a rendezvous time and place for later that day (we have personally found this is one of a number of good methods for maintaining a happy marriage!).
During my ‘browsing’ I noticed a number of men and women handing out something to shoppers as they were either entering or leaving ‘Penney’s’ on St Patrick’s Street. Having ‘loitered with intent’ I was approached by one lady who engaged me in conversation about the ‘Merits of Mary’ and how in particular the use of a SCAPULAR would be of great spiritual blessing and benefit to me. She offered me a free SCAPULAR and I said I would accept it if she would in turn accept something from me. That something was a free DVD of the Revelation TV debate that I took part in back in 2012 with Jesuit Priest, Keith McMillan. After mulling it over she declined my offer and moved on.
Many claims are made in contrasting realms of professing Christianity, from the extreme hyper-charismatic wing to the conservative missionary-minded wing, that God is still today communicating with people via extra-biblical means such as ‘dreams, visions, divine voices and appearances’.
On 9th June 2015 Phil Johnson, Executive Director of “Grace to You” (linked to John MacArthur) was interviewed on this topic by Chris Arnzen, host of the Christian radio program called ‘Iron Sharpens Iron’.
